Explore The City And Visit Its Many Attractions

When most people think of Christmas, they imagine snow-capped mountains, charming little villages, and cozy fireside scenes. However, if you’re looking for a warmer alternative to the typical winter wonderland, why not spend Christmas in Florence, Italy, this year?

Florence is one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, and during December, its narrow streets are decked out with twinkling lights and festive decorations. Over the holidays, there’s plenty to see and do – from exploring the city sights to indulging in delicious local delicacies. Here’s how to make the most of Christmas In Florence:

Christmas

See The City Lights From Piazzale Michelangelo

If you want a breathtaking view of Florence at Christmastime, head up to Piazzale Michelangelo on the south side of town. This elevated square offers stunning views over the cityscape, all lit up against a backdrop of dark blue sky. Please get there by taxi or bus (number 12) from central Florence; it’ll only take around 20 minutes. Alternatively, if you feel like stretching your legs after all that sightseeing, you can walk there via San Miniato al Monte – it’ll take around an hour, but it is worth visiting.

Take an Evening Stroll Along the River Arno

The banks of the river Arno make for a lovely evening stroll at Christmastime, especially when they’re all lit up. There are plenty of places to stop and enjoy an ice cream or some mulled wine along the way – just be prepared for crowds! Alternatively, if you’d rather avoid the hustle and bustle, there are several bridges worth checking out, too; Ponte Vecchio is probably the most famous.

Explore the Markets of Florence

Florence is famous for its markets, and there’s no shortage! The most popular ones tend to be those selling artisanal goods such as leather bags, jewelry, and ceramics, but there are also food markets where you can pick up some delicious souvenirs. Try San Lorenzo Market or Mercato Nuovo – both are centrally located.

Take a Trip to Tuscany

If you’re looking for beautiful countryside, head out of Florence and into the Tuscan hills. This area is famous for its rolling hills, olive groves, and vineyards, so it’s the perfect place to go on a scenic drive or cycle ride. A few popular destinations include Pisa, Sienna, and Lucca – all within easy reach of Florence.

Traditional Italian Food And Drink For Christmas

As Christmas draws near, many families in Italy prepare for the festive season by making their favorite traditional dishes. From appetizers to desserts, a delicious menu awaits you this holiday season!

An Italian Christmas feast usually starts with some Antipasti (appetizers), such as Crostini di fegatini (chicken liver crostini) or Bruschetta con Pomodoro fresco e Basilico (fresh tomato and basil bruschetta). If you want something heartier, why not try Pasta al ragù bolognese (spaghetti with meat sauce)? This dish is considered a classic of Italian cuisine.

Why not go all out for your main course and enjoy an authentic Porchetta? This roast pork belly stuffed with herbs will make your taste buds sing! And no Italian Christmas would be complete without dessert – how about Tiramisu or Panna cotta? If you want something to drink, why not try a glass of Vin Santo? This sweet wine is perfect for warming your taste buds on a cold winter night.
